Forged in the fires of internationally acclaimed acts ranging from Death Dealer and Knightmare to Empires of Eden and Aussie metal royalty Dungeon, Night Legion unleashes razor-sharp power metal to make your ears bleed – in the best possible way.
In addition to songwriting and production credits on Blasted To Static, a recent release fronted by Jeff Martin (Racer X), Stu Marshall stepped off the stage of Motörhead’s Motorboat just over a year ago. His band Death Dealer – with Ross the Boss (Manowar) on guitar – was one of the headline acts on the cruise.
In Night Legion, Marshall reunites with bassist Glenn Williams, a crowd favourite on Dungeon’s large-scale tours, and Clay T, of Blasted To Static fame. Joining them is James Munro (4Arm/Knightmare) – a veteran of tours in support of Slayer – on guitar, with metal maiden Shannon Tipene (The Deadly) providing lead vocals.
But don’t be expecting any of that operatic mezzo-soprano wailing we’ve become painfully familiar with. With an uncompromising and aggressive style that echoes Doro’s greatest triumphs, or Ann Wilson’s trademark microphone abuse, Tipene’s voice cuts a blazing trail of destruction that is second to none.
When asked what inspired him to take a new direction in forming a band with a female singer, Marshall answers simply: “The power of her voice. Shannon and I have worked together on various mixing projects, and she sang on the last Death Dealer album [Hallowed Ground]. Ever since I heard her unleash on ‘Way of the Gun’, I’ve known she’s exactly what we needed to lead the Legion.”
Night Legion has recently begun work on recording their debut, slated for a 2017 release, and is in the early stages of exploring which label will offer the most suitable home for the album. This unconquerable touring animal also has its sights on Japan, Europe and possibly Australia in early to mid-2017.
